WHY WHY WHY do certain people (read:MTO) think the correct way to join two highways is a marked-as-40kph tightening-radius ramp?
And does anyone else say “screw the lines” and use the shoulder to turn it into a constant radius or widening radius corner?

Yeah, I normally cut the corners a little bit. Although those damn rumble strips make it difficult sometimes.

The second purpose of the rumble strip is to wake up/terrify by making think you are asleep your passengers.

You’re correct, it should be marked at 70mph. Survival of the fittest!

Sometimes I think all ramps should have a 30deg bank on them so the people who are afraid of the skinny pedal slide off the inside...

“by making think you are asleep your passengers.”
... can you repeat that, but in English?

It’s a secret manufacturer’s 40-100kph test setup, hidden in plain sight! #OrNot

“wake up/terrify by making think you are asleep”, your passengers.
I couldn’t think of any other way to say it.

“...just off the A1, near insertbritishnamehere. If you reach anotherbritishname, you’ve gone too far.”

Depends on the ramp! I’m not risking $250 tires to a dirty shoulder that could have glass/screws on it.

I want that just so I can steal one of the road signs it will have to have that reads: “Minimum Entry Speed: 55mph”

The onramp taking I-70 from PA to I-81 S is the worst. It’s a blind, decreasing radius 25mph turn with no merge space to meet 55+ mph traffic.

Agreed. Neither am I. However, with a generous/clean shoulder...

Have your local official shot. I’ll endorse it.

I always cut those type of ramps. Usually at about double what the “recommended post speed” is. Well, when my mother isn’t in the car because she freaks the hell out for some reason when I do it.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 13:30 |

Up here the entry speed is usually double what is posted, but when they tighten at the end...
poo?

81 by Syracuse is like that. I had a 25 mph ramp with a very short entry to slow down so slam on you brakes from 75 and get to corners and hope you don’t get rear ended. Did I mention it’s lime going off a cliff if you don’t make the entry:

Apex everything

The line are only suggestions. If they meant something, the pavement would end there. They guide the timid.

If it is clean I will sometimes cut for some fun. It doesn’t really matter for me though. I got 6.2 liters of ‘MERICA and can exceed the posted speed limit no matter how much merging space I have left.

Massachusetts is notorious for very sharp decreasing radius turns at the end of on-ramps. Of course these are completely unmarked, aside from lots of tire marks from people skidding off the outside of the turn.

You’d think eventually they’d realize that having people crash=/=safer, if by decreasing the radius and reducing speed that is what they are going for.

What are these 6.2 liters of ‘MERICA encased by?

Charlie Whiting might want to have a word with them later about track limits.

This is Massachusetts. You expect them to think?
![]() 07/22/2015 at 14:06 |

I know nothing about Massachusetts. I will refrain from judging.

~4500 lbs of ‘STRAYA and a couple Pontiac badges lol.

And then he would declare it okay as long as it “doesn’t provide a significant advantage” even though it allows for faster corner exit speed.

I view rumble strips as track curbing. If you are clipping them at the apex of your turn, you are doing it right. My wife does not always concur.

40kph? Lines? Shoulder?
Psshhh! I just drift instead.

Good job.

I lied. None of my cars can actually drift without the presence of snow/ice.
I do disregard the lines and use the shoulder though granted it’s clean.
